TIPS AND ADVICE FOR TALL PEOPLE WHO FLY A LOTDiscrimination Tall business passengers tell me that after flying economy, they are not able to perform well at meetings. The tall passengers' leg-room is obviously compromised by the airlines' sardine-like seating. Aisle seats Unfortunately, tall passengers cannot fully relax when stretching a leg into the aisle, out of concern that they will trip up a flight attendant or another passenger, or have their toes run over by a service cart. Exit rows Tall passengers wish the airlines would save the exit rows for them because on many aircraft, there is more leg room at exit rows. For these seats, however, the airlines seek a particular mental/physical profile, called "the able-bodied." Passengers assigned to the exit rows are, in the opinion of the airline ticket agent, willing to assist, as needed, during an emergency -- able-bodied implies that the passenger possesses enough strength, agility, and confidence to open an emergency exit hatch, then assist passengers to "Jump! Run! Jump! Run!" Heroics are not a requirement. "Follow me!" might also be an acceptable script for the able-bodied passenger leading an emergency evacuation. (I'm not sure I'd mention this, however, when requesting an exit row seat.) Difficulties? Tall passengers unite.
