Whether you're short or tall, Consumer Reports just published a new report on which cars will suit you best. Vehicles evaluated by Consumer Reports can be very small and very big. One of the more than 60 tests they face, how well they fit different sized test drivers. "Well, our tallest is Rick who's 6'3" and our shortest is Anita who's 5'2". What we're looking for is seat comfort, visibility, where the controls are--things like that really do affect how well the car works," says David Champion of Consumer Reports. Some cars, like the Chevy Cavalier, are poor choices if you're on the tall side because of the lack of legroom. "The dash and the console just rub on your leg constantly while you're driving," says Rick. If you're on the short side, you'll want to steer clear of cars like the Ford Explorer Sport Trac. "I have to sit much closer to the steering wheel than I usually do in order to reach the gas pedals and braking pedal," Anita says. It may come as no shock that small sports cars like the Audi TT don't work well for tall people. "If I came to a stoplight or something, I'd really have to go like this. I can see forward, but that's about it," says Rick. However, it might surprise you to learn that they're not the best choice for short people either. Anita can barely see over the wheel. But there are cars like the Volkswagen Pass that are good for both tall and short drivers--something to consider if the drivers in your home come in all sizes.
